Dr. Miele is the owner and president of Mind Over Body Athletics, LLC, doing business as Miele Forensic Consulting. She provides technical analysis, reports, consultation, and investigations on personal and commercial litigation related to sports, fitness, recreation, and education matters. Since 2010, Dr. Miele has consulted on over 500 cases and has testified in trial and deposition at least 50 times.
Dr. Miele gives presentations about risk management in the above industries, sports injury prevention, and the best and safest practices for facility operations and supervision.
BACKGROUND
Dr. Miele played Division I basketball at Arizona State, played Tight End for the Arizona Caliente in the Women’s Professional Football League, and was also a New York Golden Gloves semi-finalist in 2004. She started coaching athletes in 1986 and has been working as a personal exercise and fitness trainer since 1994. Dr. Miele has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe as both an athlete and a coach, and she has been involved in consulting, coaching, and teaching a wide range of sports including, but not limited to, basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, football, archery, bowling, figure skating, hockey, boxing, wrestling, field sports, golf, soccer, swimming, track and field, gymnastics, and tennis.
Dr. Miele taught Physical Education at the middle and high school levels from 1997 to 2006. After that, he managed the Sport Injury Prevention Program at a Children’s Medical Center before returning to education from 2011 to 2014.
Dr. Miele runs her own business, ‘Mind over Body Athletics, LLC,’ where she trains and consults athletes and coaches across a variety of sports, focusing on sport psychology, injury prevention, and training methods. Dr. Miele also consults schools, athletic directors, coaches, parents, and student-athletes about the importance of preventative tactics in sports. She has delivered presentations on injury prevention and safety in sport, recreation, and fitness.
Dr. Miele holds a Doctorate in Psychology (with an emphasis on Sport and Exercise), a Master’s in Education with a focus on Alternative Education (Minor: Education Administration), and an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education. She continues to provide personal training and consultation across various training methods, sports, and psychological needs.
Physical Education /Education-Supervision
Dr. Miele is a sport, fitness, recreation, and education expert with 14 years of physical education experience (Pre-kindergarten-12) across multiple states in the country. Dr. Miele possesses relevant experience in the teaching standards required by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), effective supervision before, during, and after school, skill progression and instruction, proper use of safety equipment, and the practices related to the roles and responsibilities of teachers and administrators.
She served as an adjunct professor of Exercise Science, Wellness, and Sport at Montgomery Community College in Blue Bell, PA, and was also an online adjunct professor for the Department of Recreation and Sport Pedagogy at Ohio University.
Dr. Miele is a mandated reporter who consults on issues related to teacher or coach sexual misconduct.
Sports and Coaching/Recreation
Dr. Miele has coached various sports, including recreational leagues, varsity high school teams, and community college programs. She was a Division I basketball player, a New York City Golden Gloves boxer, and a professional women’s football player. She possesses relevant experience and training in coaching practices, including proper inspection of courts and fields, use of safety equipment (mats and pads), skill progression and instruction, coaching techniques, safety analysis, and the supervision of children and adults in sports and recreation facilities.
Dr. Miele is a Nationally Certified Accredited Interscholastic Level 3 Coach with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). She also serves on the Sports Equipment, Playing Surfaces, and Facilities Committee, the Trampoline Park Committee, and the Consumer Products and Amusement Rides and Devices Committee with the American Society for Testing and Materials International (ASTM).
Dr. Miele is currently a Nationally Certified Accredited Interscholastic Coach (Level 3) through the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS).
Fitness
Dr. Miele has trained, instructed, and consulted amateur athletes and the general population both inside and outside of fitness facilities. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and certifications in functional training, biomechanics in sport and exercise, fitness facility management, and as a Life Fitness Equipment Technician. Dr. Miele is knowledgeable about the standard of care required to properly train, supervise, and ensure the safety of clients and members in fitness facilities, as well as the proper maintenance and inspection of fitness equipment.
Dr. Miele has 14 years of experience in physical education, during which she has trained to teach gymnastics and body awareness using trampolines. She holds (Pre-kindergarten-12) certifications in multiple states across the country. Dr. Miele has been training and instructing gymnasts for over 15 years. She is USA Gymnastics certified in risk management and safety, tumbling, and trampoline developmental coaching. Dr. Miele possesses relevant experience in proper instructional standards, supervision, skill progression, use of safety equipment, landing techniques, and surfaces (mats/padding), as well as in the practices related to the roles and responsibilities of coaches.
She is also a Level 2 Certified Service Technician (CST-2) through the International Association of Trampoline Parks (IATP) and a member of the ASTM F24.61-(F-2970) Trampoline Court Task Group, which is responsible for the ongoing development of standards applicable to trampoline parks.
Concussions/Emergency Response-AED-CPR
Dr. Miele has experience and training in coaching practices related to emergency response, concussion prevention, identification, and protocols. Dr. Miele has coached various sports at different levels of play and completed the Concussion Wise program as well as the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Concussions in Sports training program. Dr. Miele has worked with concussed patients in her Sport Psychology practice and is knowledgeable about the standard of care for coaches and trainers concerning the health and safety of their players.
